France Wine Cruise

Join us on this special barge cruise with a wine focus. Cruise on the beautiful Saone through the heart of Beaujolais. Enjoy  tastings and visits with wine specialists.
Day 1 New York, NY
Depart your home city to Paris, France
Day 2 Cruise
For those passengers taking our optional transfer, meet in the lobby of Hotel Regina, 192 Rue de Rivoli, 75001 Paris at 1:00pm. You will be escorted to the Gare de Lyon for a first class high speed TGV train ride to Dijon. Passengers not taking this transfer will meet us outside the Hotel Chateau Perrache opposite the Lyon Perrache railroad station at 4:30pm. All passengers will then be transferred to the Libellule, a short drive to to our mooring in the heart of the city. Welcome champagne and presentation of the crew, then time to settle into your comfortable cabins. . Dinner will be served at 7:30pm this evening. (D)
Day 3 Cruise
After breakfast, we will enjoy a tour of the ancient quarter of Lyon, situated on the right bank of the river Saone around St John's Cathedral. The heart of the modern city is now the peninsula between the confluence of the rivers Rhone and Saone. We will have some free time to explore on our own before returning to the Libellule in time for lunch. In the afternoon, we will cruise to the town of Trevoux. (B, L, D)
Day 4 Cruise
After breakfast, we will visit our first vineyard in the hills of Beaujolais where some very fine wines are produced apart from the Beaujolais Nouveau that everyone is very aware of. We will visit a private grower for tastings of such wines as Morgon, Moulin a Vent etc. This is also a delightfully scenic area. We return to the Libellule in time for lunch and cruise this afternoon to the town of Macon. (B, L, D)
Day 5 Cruise
Macon is renown for many of its great white wines such as Pouilly Fusee and this morning we will explore the region known as the Maconaisse and visit a private wine growers' cellar to taste some of these wonderful wines. In the afternoon, we will have a short cruise to the charming riverside town of Trevoux where there will be plenty of time for you to explore on your own. Here you can find an 11th century Collegiate Church of St Philibert, considered a landmark of Romanesque architecture.
Day 6 Cruise
This morning we will discover Chalon, maybe the Museum of Photography dedicated to the Lumiere brothers. This is also a delightful town to stroll amongst the pedestrian shopping streets. In the afternoon, we will visit Beaune, the wine capital of Burgundy. Our drive will follow the Cotes de Beaune, the wine slopes of the area, passing through many famous villages such as Mersault, Puligny Montrachet, Pommard, Auxey Duress and Volnay to name a few. We will visit the Hospice de Beaune, a masterpiece of late medieval architecture founded in 1443 by the Chancellor of the Dukes of Burgundy as a charity hospital. Afterwards we will have a private wine tasting in the Cotes de Beaune before returning to the Libellule in time for dinner. (B, L, D)
Day 7 Cruise
This morning, as we cruise northwards, we will participate in an on-board wine tasting with an oenologue. In the afternoon, after lunch on board, we will explore Dijon, capital of Burgundy, including the Palace of The Dukes. There will be plenty of free time to explore before we return to the barge for the farewell dinner on board. (B, L, D)
Day 8 Cruise
This morning we will begin cruising as we enjoy our breakfast. We will arrive in St. Jean de Losne and we will transfer to the Dijon railroad station. Those who have purchased the optional transfer to Paris, will travel via TGV to Paris' Gare de Lyon. We have reserved a room for you at the lovely Elysee Foche Hotel within walking distance of the Champs Elysee and the Arc de Triomphe. Enjoy the evening on your own to explore Paris and sample some of its delicious cuisine. (B)
Day 9 Paris
Enjoy a delightful Parisien breakfast before spending the day exploring the wonderful "City of Lights" on your own. You may wish to visit one of the many wonderful museums, view Paris from atop the Eiffel Tower, shop on the boulevards, or explore quaint neighborhoods such as the Marais. (B)
Day 10 New York, NY
After breakfast, you may make your way to the airport for your return flights to the US (transfer not included).
